It seems that you guys are having a bit of a problem with direction (big surprise in my game right?).
Anyway to help you out I thought I might give you some suggestions:
Think about what Yodi has done.
Think about who is working for who.
Think about how you came to where you are, first from nentir, then 'allowed' to get to Kredig Shaw where you were ambushed and then to your current location.
How many factions are there (2, 3, 4, more?)
Don't forget those factions are working towards THEIR goals, not yours.
Why was Argent abandoned?
Who are Yodi, Rothgar, Scalmad, Earthshaker, Oresbane, Elendi, Samse, Kelcier, and you working for? (maybe for theirselves maybe for someone else, and maybe some of them are on the same side).
Who is trying to get you to do what.
Don't worry about 'how' you got to a place but rather, 'why'
Don't forget that the shade said that he had been betrayed by more than Elendi (the lord ruler).
Don't forget about your own character backgrounds might know or their backgrounds that might influence things.

Here are some of my thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. When we began our travel to Argent, when we were traveling due to the charims...we had absolutely no trouble traveling on the river. We were considered to be part of one of the houses (don't remember which). Now, the lord ruler should have known that we were doing this - so why would he give us this freedom, to just ambush us in the city? Something seems off here.
2. Yodie - he is responsible for finding champions of argent, and as a consequence he provides them with charims - why is he unable to provide them to us now? Remember, the two we found were not given by Yodi. In addition, it appeared that there should have been more than just the two charims - but were missing. What happened to them. Why is it that Yodi cannot get the Charims? What if that was taken away from him, due to some betrayal, but can still sense when others find charims?
3. The question of why Aregent is now empty is odd? What if the city was abondoned because of the betrayals that were mentioned? It seems odd to me that the "proctor" of the city has items with the same symbols that are on my battle axe. Whoever attacked my home, was searching for the key, for a lack of better words. We were protecting the forrest, as it was essential for the survival of the realm. Those that attacked us, carried weapons with these sybmols.
4. Elendi (lord ruler) is responsible for bringing outsiders into this land to help protect it. Why would he bring us here, he is the one who does this? At the very least, he would know that we came, and would be able to send us back - why does he want us here? Maybe it is time to talk to him?
5. Why don't we try to ask the shade how Elendi betrayed him, and who else betrayed him. Did they do it all at once, or was it over a very long time period, and seemed random? How did they betray him. We are going to talk to him, maybe these are some of the questions we should ask him. I also think we should ask him more about the pedastal - what does it look like, what does it do, how can we return it...
Champions stopped coming to Argent about 100 years ago from the Nentir Vale... That's about the time of the Bloodspear Wars, the break-up of the empire and the exhile of the sons of Brennan Trelmon (the Betrayer.)
ReplyDeleteHow long ago did Elendi steal the pedistal?
Is the pyramid of shadows the prision containing the fire primordial?
I'm still thinking a meeting with Elendi or any of his people would be a bad idea.
Yodi: in the past he provided new Champions with Charims and directed them to Rothgar. He has stopped doing so, presumably because the champions stopped coming. But, maybe they were sent from the Vale, but not aided by Yogi for some reason.
Oresbane: Trying to free the fire primordial or tap it's power somehow. Looking for the 3 remaining keys. Enemies: Rothgar/Argent, Earthshaker. Allies: unknown, possibly Scalmad.
Scalmad: May be working for Oresbane trying to find the keys. Wants to get into the Feywild, possibly to get one of the keys. Appears to be working against Earthshaker. Wants to use us if he can, kill us if not.
Kelcier: Leader of the rebelion against Elendi. Don't know his relation to Argent if any. Wants us to aid the revolution.
Samse: Wants us to believe he "helped" us get out of the warrens, but could have sent the fire giant after us. Don't know what he wants from us.
I'm just not seeing anything useful in any of it.
I'm all for taking down the lord ruler, who I see as a tyrant.
D'Zeroth REALLY wants to stop the primordials from returning, so he's all about us being Champions of Argent, and opposing Oresbane.
Defeating the Lord Ruler, returning the pedistal to Argent and stopping Oresbane all seem to be complimentary objectives. Helping Earthshaker is a means to an end (getting the Charims we need to accomplish our goals.) Opposing Elendi, puts us on the side of the rebelion by default, regardless of their ultimate objectives/motivations. I lean towards opposing Scalmad, but really don't know where he fits in all this. I lean towards trusting Samse, but just barely.
I guess you guys might need a "to do" list. Seems to me that you have lots of things to explore or do:
ReplyDeleteMain #1) defeat Elendi and restore the pedestal
Main #2) prevent the fire giants from freeing the primordials
Personal for Wendy) discover who is attacking the forests and what their relation is to Argent, Scalmad, and the world
Optional #1) recover charims (which you have multiple ways of doing: a) get them from yodi in some fashion as he is supposed to hand them out. b) retern to the area that you found the others and look for clues to other caches of them. c) treat with Eartshaker in hopes that he will supply them. d) discover the location of the sacred stone tree and steal them. e) treat with Scalmad and see if he will still supply them for some other tasks
Optional #2) Restore the power of Argent by recovering skymetal to recharge the magical defenses, which requires you finding the sky metal from some source (Qwor is known to have the information but others might), Seek the aid of Freecity to bolster the defenses.
Optional #3) Strike a bargain with other powers that might protect or help protect Argent. One possibility might be to ee if it is possible to bring the rebell Skaa into the new location and set them up as defenders. Other possiblities might come to mind (dragons, dwarves, trolls, and giants to name a few)
Optional #4) research and try and discover what befel Argent and where all the Tarrismen went.
There are many other side quests and such that I am sure you could spend time on, but I think you guys are trying to do too much at once. Focus on one task and work it until you hit a dead end. Then move to another task.
I think we should talk to Qwar (shade/ghost) and ask him why people of argent and/or champions betrayed him - were there reasons?
ReplyDeleteI als think we should ask him if we brought people in to help defend the city - that are working against Elendi, would he hinder/help them?
I think the sky metal is in the crater that surrounds Ibor - we could go there are try to get some of it - It may also have something to do with alamancy metals.
At the risk of sounding power hungry. I think our fist task needs to be obtaining Charims. Both Zane and I are curretnly significantly weekend due to losing ours. We've hardly been breezing through our opponents lately. And, this is only going to make things worse.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know where all the people went that used to lived here. If we could find them then maybe they would come back to defend the city.
ReplyDeleteSky metal seems like something that we should have as well. Depending on the time we have. Asking questions and researching in the library should help us out on the above 2.
Do giants and elementals usually team up? I know that they want a key, but will that be benneficial to both parties?
Sorry gang, I didn't post this week. I tried twice but it is hard to know where to start. I have an idea for tonight to show you and maybe it least it will help me some. See you all tonight.
ReplyDeletewell I think I have the answer to the number of times I can shift per round. At the end of Wild Shape power on page 84 of the players hand book 2 "You can use this power once per round" Sorry guys guess I need to read my abilities more closely.
