A suggestion

Hey gang,
I wanted to talk alittle bit about last night. I and probably everyone was frustrated with my ability to play my character. Here is what I was dealing with. Rodney was telling me to do one thing and William saying that I should do my own thing. It is hard for me to decide when everyone is saying one thing or another. I have a suggestion. If you want my character to do something, weather it is my area attack, my moving somewhere or whatever, say it on your turn and when it is my turn, I will decide what I will do. When I get Rodney saying this, William saying I should do something else and Brian just wanting me to do something, I get all frustrated and it takes me longer to think things out. I value everyones opinion and if you have a better way of handling this let me know. William please pass this one onto wendy so she knows too. Also I realized that I actually do this to her too. I will make a point of being conscious of that. Thanks for listening to my ramble and I will see you guys next week. Peace out. Darin

  1. Sounds like a great idea. But dont get any ideas about trying to boss me around. I have a definate plan for my character in my own mind weather it is productive or not I try to play that way. ie .. Wendy if you want to dual strike or single strike should be up to how you want your character viewed. I am not a min-maxer like William and Rodney so it is more fun to me to have an image in my mind of what should be done then try to do that .(Without taking too long to decide.) We are all here to have a good time, and the little confrontation last night defineatly took the air of the game. Or it could have been the DM not letting me do my divine damage. THAT SUCKED!!!

  2. Sorry I guess I missed the confrontation. I was not trying to get Darin to do a specific thing, I was just trying to get him to decide what he was going to do. My suggestion of "just play your character" was not meant to be a "don't do what Rodney suggested" it was just a 'shit or get off the pot' statement about taking too long to decide. You guys might see me as a min maxer, but in reality I will sometimes do things that are not very efficient, like gathkin using his second wind even after Rodney told him to hold off. In my opinion it was not common knowledge what Andros' intentions were so Gathkin was not metagaming and optimizing his healing. I try and do the same thing with the creatures, I try not to just have them necessarily all work in unison unless they are supposed to or have a reason to. That being said, I think the proper thing to do if you are taking too long to decide is either say give me another 10 seconds to think about it or put your character on delay. I love it when you guys use excellent tactics but I don't want the game to become just a battle situation where everyone discusses their turn before acting. Try at least to act like things are happening quickly in combat and if you need extra time to think, either ask for it or delay.

Honestly I have the largest problem with Darin telling ME what he is doing. He might discuss it with Rodney and then when it gets to his turn he just assumes I know what he is doing. If you have another word for your ability, like "pony up" I am cool with that so long as I know what it means, but moving your fig up to an opponent and rolling the dice does not really let me know what you are doing, sure I can assume it is a deft strike.

  3. William, I am sorry that I don't make myself clear to what I am doing I will do a better job of that. Honestly I use deft stike for most every attack and after a while I take it for granted that you know that, so I will let you know what I am doing every time. I apologize for not expressing myself to you better. I know you have a ton of things you are working with.

  4. It's all good, I am having a good time playing and I hope all of you are too, but with so many new and different skills I am spending 95% of my prep time figuring out what my stuff does and although I have an idea of what all of you guys can do it has not been my focus so I rely on you to know your own skills as well as what you can do and will do with them on your turn. I don't mind giving you some extra time to think. Maybe it's just me but at that stage that someone else is calling the shots, the person running the character becomes little more than a dice roller. For me part of the fun is comming up with a strategy, idea, or crazy ploy to try and get something to work. I guess though if it is fun for you to just roll dice while others tell you were to go I guess I really should not be that hard on it as having fun is the point of the game after all.

No need for an apology or feeling bad about it, play however it makes the game fun for you, just let me know what that is. If that is strategizing and acting on your own or having someone else telling you where and what to do I guess it doesn't make much difference to me. Sorry if I put you off about the whole rush to decide.
